Global Lupus Health Equity Initiative in Ghana
Our Global Lupus Health Equity Initiative in Ghana works to close critical gaps in lupus care by combining direct patient support, education, and advocacy. Through this initiative, we delivered essential medications to underserved lupus patients and provided mentorship to individuals newly diagnosed with lupus—reinforcing the message that lupus is not a death sentence, but a manageable condition that allows for a full and meaningful life.
A core pillar of the program is patient education. We empowered participants with practical knowledge about lupus triggers, nutrition, sun protection, and holistic care strategies, including food-elimination approaches informed by naturopathic principles. This education equips patients to better manage symptoms and take an active role in their long-term health.
Beyond grassroots impact, the initiative advanced systemic change by engaging global stakeholders. We met with the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana and USAID to advocate for increased funding, improved data collection, and sustainable, evidence-based solutions. In parallel, we expanded global awareness through international media outreach, amplifying lupus education and advocacy to audiences in the United Kingdom and beyond.
